This is a Victorian pottery match holder / striker by James MacIntyre, finished in the Marble Slipware pattern, & fully marked to the base with the impressed mark & Registration mark for 16th March 1880. The holder has a circular base, with sloping sides & a concave bowl, & a central, barrel shaped holder. The sloping sides of the bowl have an impressed, ridged pattern (for use as a striking surface), whilst the barrel holder has two raised bands around the top & bottom. The holder is finished in Cream, & the barrel is finished in MacIntyre's Marble Slipware pattern, in Brown. The lip is gilded. The base is impressed with 'MACINTYRE' & has the printed 'diamond' Registration Mark for 16th March 1880. Condition is Fine, with absolutely no chips, cracks, or restoration. The only points to note are some tiny firing marks to the base rim, some 'ink' ? marks to the interior of the barrel, & expected light crazing - fine for it's 130 years. The holder has a diameter of approx 4 1/4", with a height of approx 3 1/4" (approx 10.8cm & 8.2cm).
