This is an original Art Deco Period novelty bird cage clock with it's original stand, in working order & most probably of European origin, & dating to around the 1920's / 30's. The clock is in the form of a circular birdcage, with ball feet to the base & a decorative tri-ball finial, which has an articulated suspension ring, to allow the cage to be hung on the stand. The base of the cage houses the movement & the actual cage (the bars & finial) is attached to the base via 3 split pins. The bottom of the base has the winding key, a thin metal bar for adjusting the time, & a crescent shaped cut-out (which was probably for a speed adjustment lever, although this is not present). The clock consists of a copper ? ball with a brass band around the centre; the band being marked from 1 to 12 in Arabic numerals, & with vertical lines for the half hours, whilst a metal 'pointer' indicates the time. Along side the clock is a little (once) Yellow bird, made of early plastic or bakelite, which sits on a thin wooden post & moves from side to side in time with the 'ticking' of the movement. The interior base of the cage has an embossed star or flower design, & the top of the copper ball clock is decorated with a dome finial. The stand consists of a circular marble base, with a plated metal semi-circular stand. Condition is Good & original. There is plate loss / surface pitting to the stand & the bars on the cage, one ball foot is missing, & the clock would benefit from a dust & clean (the clock looks as if it has never been cleaned, as the split pins & the interior base screws that hold the movement look original & untouched). The clock ticks away (quite loudly) for around 24 + hours when wound, although I can't guarantee the accuracy of the movement. The clock stands approx 11" (28cm) tall, with the actual cage approx 5 3/8" tall including the finial (approx 13.5cm).
