Edwardian Silver Shell Bowl Apostle Spoons Tongs 1904

This is a set of six Edwardian Silver Apostle spoons & a pair of Silver Apostle tongs in their original fitted case, by the Sheffield silversmiths Henry Hobson & Sons, & all fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1904.

The spoons have figural Shell shaped bowls, barley twist stems, & Apostle finials.

The matching tongs also have Shell bowls, barley twist arms, & cast Apostle shoulders.

Each piece is fully hallmarked (the spoons to the front of the bowls & the tongs on the inside 'bend'), with the makers mark 'H.H&S' (Henry Hobson & Sons), the anchor (Birmingham), the lion passant (925 Sterling), & the date letter 'e' (1904 - 05).

Condition is Good, with no wear to the bowls.. The only points to note are that the bowls would have been gilded originally, but this has mostly rubbed, & that one spoon seems to have had an old repair (an old, but obviously professional, repair between the stem & bowl).

The original box is in Poor condition. The interior is Fine, but the exterior has overall wear & is missing the front catch.

Each spoon measures approx 4 1/8" in length (approx 10.4cm), whilst the tongs are approx 3 3/4" in length (approx 9.5cm).

The total weight is 50.2g, 1.77oz, or 1.61 Troy.
