This is an early George V period solid silver nurses style belt buckle, by the silversmiths John Thomson & Sons, & fully hallmarked for Chester 1910. The two part buckle has a hook & clasp fastening, with a bar to the rear of each half for attaching to a belt. Each half of the buckle features an openwork Thistle and foliage design, with hand chased detailing all over - please see photos. The buckle is fully hallmarked to both parts : One half with the makers mark 'J.T&S' (John Thomson & Sons), the lion passant (925 Sterling), the wheatsheafs (Chester) & the date letter 'K' (1910-11) and the other half with the lion passant & date letter. The buckle is currently attached to a dark blue ribbon belt (2" wide & approx 40" long), although this can be easily removed. Condition is fine, with no damage. The buckle measures approx 3 3/4" long (9.5cm) & is designed to take a belt of up to approx 2" / 5cm.
