This is an early Victorian papier mache snuff box, with a hinged lid & finished in a tartan pattern, & dating to around c.1840 - 1850.

The box is rectangular in form, with a flush hinge, & with all surfaces, including the base, decorated in a tartan pattern.

The interior has a lacquered 'wood' finish, with the hand painted makers mark or number to the interior lid.

Condition is very good with no splits & a fine hinge. One corner of the lid has suffered a little loss & there is the expected, but light, rubbing to the tartan finish - overall very good for it's 170+ years.

The box measures approx 2 3/4" (7cm) in length.
