This is an original German WW1 aviation momento in the form of a mantle clock, made from a Heine propeller hub, & fitted with a later (30's) Smiths 8 day aircraft / car clock. Although WW1 German propellers are often difficult to assign to a particular aircraft, the markings on the hub suggest that it is possibly from a Fokker Dr I, the Dreidecker or the Fokker E series (thanks to Dave & Bob at woodenpropeller.com forum for the info). The propeller is made from laminated wood & has been cut length ways & mounted on a wooden stand. The propeller was designed for a Rupp type fastening, thus no front bolt holes. The edge of the propeller is marked : 100 PS (horsepower) ROHNE (Le Rhone engine) D 250 (Diameter) ST 240 (Pitch) HEINE (manufacturer) Heine were well known for their spelling mistakes when stamping props, with known variations on the word Rhone (inc Rohne & Leron), and the above horsepower is certainly an error as it should read 110 PS (to my knowledge, Le Rhone didn't make a 100 PS unit). The later (circa 20s/30s) clock is a Smiths 8 Day dashboard clock, in it's original hinged swing out casing, & is numbered P-273.943. The clock fits nicely into the propeller (which has had a matching wooden bezel added), although I've not fixed it in, should you wish to change it. Condition of the prop is very good, with the expected light marks of an original. The base has a small & very minor split to one side (does not affect or detract in any way) The clock, although it will tick away for it's 8 days, will need a service as it is losing around 5-10 mins per day (there is a regulater lever on the rear of the clock, but I've not tried adjusting it).
