This is a large, English Victorian oil heater lamp, by the Albion Lamp Company, & dating to the latter part of the 19th century, circa 1880 - 90. The circular base / font is made from brass & sits on three feet. It has twin wire handles, a hollow tube running through it's centre, & a filler cap which is embossed 'THE ALBION LAMP COMPANY / ENGLISH MADE'. The burner has a circular wick, a decorative wick riser knob, a removable shade holder (with a single screw fitting to hold the shade), and a removable brass 'button' flame spreader. The burner unscrews from the base & lifts up on a brass tube, to reveal the pierced wick holder & a line of teeth for the riser mechanism - please see photos 8 & 9. The original dark cranberry / ruby heavy glass shade is ovoid in form, with a flared base and an embossed diamond or quilted pattern. Condition of the shade is Fine, with absolutely no chips, cracks, or restoration. Condition of the base is Very Good and in original, un-cleaned condition. The main point to note being one arm of one of the handles needs resoldering (not strictly necessary, as the base sits & displays fine as it is). The burner looks to be fine, but will need a little lubrication (it is stiff & squeaky when unscrewing it from the base and although the riser mechanism operates fine in the lifted position, when it is screwed back into the base it is extremely stiff). The base measures approx 9 1/4" (23.5cm) in diameter excluding the handles, & the total height is approx 18 3/4" or 47.7cm. (the shade alone stands approx 13" or 33cm high, with a circumference of approx 29 1/2" or 75cm at the widest point). NOTE RE: OVERSEAS SHIPPING : The lamp weighs around 2.9 Kg unpacked, so please email for a shipping quote.
