This is a stunning, large Art Nouveau / Jugendstil Solid Silver chalice or cup & cover with Malachite mounts, by the Royal Bavarian Court Silversmith Eduard Wollenweber in Munich, & dating to the late 19th century, around 1880 - 1900. The cup has a stepped circular base, a stylised knop, and an exqusite tri-lobed fretwork stem - each support in a stylised organic form - with a central, claw mounted Malachite ball hanging from the base of the tapered cup. The lid of the cup has an extended rim with a scalloped detail below, & the top has been mounted with a stunning floral wreath, supported on 4 stylised 'branches' and with a raised Malachite ball finial. The floral mount, which is attached to the lid via a threaded screw, is simply stunning & has been created from dozens of little delicate Silver flowers. The interior of the cup has a Vermeil finish & the exterior rim of the lid is fully hallmarked with the makers mark E.D. WOLLENWEBER, 800 (Silver standard), & the crescent and crown (German Silver mark). Condition is overall extremely good for it's 110+ years, with no bruising, although there are a few points to note, all of which are minor & easily rectified & do not detract in any way : One of the fretwork supports is very lightly bent (causing the cup to lean a little), three of the four 'branch' supports on the wreath have become detatched (absolutely no breaks or losses, simply need re-soldering into position), & the large malachite ball finial has been repaired (one edge has been knocked & glued back) - please see magnified photos. The cup stands approx 12 1/4" high to the top of the finial (approx 31.6cm) & weighs 250.4 g, 8.83 oz, or 8.05 Troy. Overall, a simply stunning Jugendstil Silver goblet & cover by one of the most renowned German silversmiths of the period.
