This is a late Victorian, bone combination dip pen, paper knife, wax seal, & stanhope, dating to around 1880 - 90. The ornate paper knife handle unscrews to reveal a dip pen with a brass patterned 'nib' (the pattern seems to be some form of hyrogliphics ?) The ornately carved & pierced handle has a chequered wax seal finial, with a stanhope below. The stanhope view is entitled 'SOUVENIR OF NEW BRIGHTON - FROM F.STOREY - BON MARCHE - NEW BRIGHTON', & has views of Wesleyan Chapel, the Battery & Shore, Lighthouse, St. James Church, Promenade Pier, & the Port of Liverpool. The L/H margin of the views reads 'Made in France'. New Brighton was a very popular seaside resort in the 19th century, & is situated on the tip of the Wirral Peninsula. Condition is great for its age : there is very slight wear to the tip of the knife & a couple of small ink stains at the base of the handle. The screw fitting is perfect & the stanhope views are crystal clear (the circumference of the stanhope is obscured, which is due to age & in no way affects the images). The total length is approx 19.5cm.
