Six Silver 'Hanoverian' Spoons & Tongs - Wm Hutton 1908

This is a cased set of six Edwardian Silver spoons & a pair of sugar tongs or nips, by the illustrious firm of William Hutton & Sons Ltd, & fully hallmarked for London 1908.

The 'Rat-tail' pattern spoons have been inspired by the early 19th Century examples, & feature a long 'rat-tail' to the reverse of the bowl & a pronounced central ridge along the front of the spoon, ending in a 'pip' at the upturned terminal.

The sugar tongs also have a 'rat-tail' to each bowl with the central ridge & pip ending at the shoulders.

Each spoon is fully hallmarked to the reverse of the bowl with the makers mark of William Hutton & Sons Ltd, the lion passant (925 sterling), the leopards head (London), & the date letter 'n' (for 1908 - 09). The tongs carry the same marks to the inside bend.

Each piece is monogrammed with the letter 'S', the spoons to the reverse of the terminal & the tongs to the outside bend.

The case is of serpentine form, with a push button opening & is covered in faux black leather with gold tooling to the edges. The interior lid is covered in blue 'silk' & the fitted base is in dark blue velvet.

Condition of the spoons & tongs are excellent, with no damage or wear - perfect.

The box has a little wear to the top, but the base is scuffed & has a 12cm thin split to the wood (this does not affect the structure in any way), the interior is excellent, as are the hinges & opening.

Each spoon measures approx 10.5 cm in length (4 1/4"), with the tongs measuring approx 9.3 cm (3 1/2").

The total weight of Silver is 99.8 g, 3.52 oz, or 3.21 Troy.

An excellent, 100 year old cased set, by an illustrious firm, in fantastic condition.
