Victorian Mother of Pearl Card Case circa 1880

This is a Victorian calling or visiting card case, inlaid with mother of pearl panels, & dating to around 1880 - 90.

The whole case has been been inlaid with MOP, with the front & rear having a large diamond shape detail, formed from smaller diamond & triangular shaped panels.

The interior edges of the case have been finished in bone or ivory, & the interior is lined in blue velvet.

The hinged lid is opened via a push button located on one edge.

Condition is fair for it's 130 odd years, the small MOP panel at the rear edge of the lid (hinge end) is missing a small piece & the rest of the panel is beginning to lift, there is a little bit of bumping to one corner of the lid, & a little of the ivory to the interior lip is missing.

The hinge & push button closure both work, but the lid is 'wobbly' & there is around 3mm of movement of the lid when closed (there is an approx 3mm space between the lid & base when closed - please see photo 11).

The case measures approx 4" in length, 3" wide, & 3/8" deep.
