This is a small brass marine or nautical compass, fully working but most probably made as a decorative item ? (due to size), & stamped with the makers marks of Stanley, London (on the rim), & C Plath (on the compass face). The compass has an outer ring, which is attached to the compass via 2 screws & allows it to pivot. The rim of the compass is screwed down onto a glass face & rubber seal via 6 screws, & is impressed with 'STANLEY LONDON'. The 'face' looks to be made of plastic & is printed with 'C PLATH HAMBURG' underneath the North point, & 'GERMANY' on the south point. Condition is fair, the brass has had a lacquered finish, but this is mostly worn. The actual compass seems to work fine (the face pivots within the case & turns fine although how accurate, we really don't know). Age wise, we wouldn't imagine it's of any great age due to the plastic 'face'. Overall, a nice little compass that would be great as a paper weight, or simply as a decorative nautical item.
