This is a large, 19th Century pill or trinket box, made of porcelain in a pearl lustre glaze with a signed Kauffman transfer & brass fittings, and almost certainly of European manufacture. The box is circular in form and has a hinged lid, with the hinge, mounts, & decorative 'S' clasp being made of brass. The sides of the box are finished in a pearl lustre glaze & have been decorated with a gilded floral / foliate design above 2 gilt bands to the base. The lid of the box has the same gilt decoration to it's edge, with a gilt bordered central transfer of an Angelica Kauffman neoclassical scene. The transfer is 'signed' on the R/H side edge. The interior & the base of the box are plain, with the interior being glazed. Condition is Fine, there are no cracks, chips, or restoration & the hinge & clasp are excellent. The gilding is partially rubbed in places, mostly around the edge - please see magnified photo's. The box is quite large for it's type & measures approx 2 3/4" in diameter & approx 1 3/4" high (7.2 cm x 4.5 cm). Overall, a stunning 19th Century porcelain Kauffman box.
