This is an Arthur Wood (Royal Bradwell) lustre jug or pitcher, fully back stamped, & dating to 1945 - 53. The jug has a scalloped body, a pedestal base with moulded 'kite' shaped detailing, & an angular handle in the form of bound reeds ?. The jug is decorated with a lattice of flowers, leaves, & stems, and is finished in a mottled purple, pearl lustre. The rim is finished in Gilt. The base has the printed Bradwell / Wood mark which was used from 1945 - 1953, the pattern No. '4090' in Gilt, the hand painted letter 'A' in Gilt, & the number '13.' in green. There is also a very, very feint impressed word which could be 'TEMPO' ? but this is only a guess, as it is difficult to make out. Although this is a jug or pitcher, it would serve equally well as a vase. Condition is Fine, with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or wear to the pattern. There is very fine crazing to the finish (only visible on the undecorated interior & base), and a little staining to the interior lip (it looks like a few clear 'drips' where the 'purple finish' ends). The jug stands approx 8 5/8" high (at the highest point of the lip), or approx 22 cm.
