Edwardian Silver 'Angels' Miniature Hymns Book 1906

This is one of three miniature Silver books listed this week.

This is an Edwardian, leather bound miniature book entitled 'HYMNS - ANCIENT AND MODERN, with a Silver 'Angels' cover by the silversmith Charles P Brown, & fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1906.

The book is bound in an embossed black leather, with gold edging to the pages, and has a Silver front cover with a repousse depiction of Joshua Reynolds 'Heads of Angels'. The cover is fully hallmarked with the makers mark 'CPB' (Charles Penny Brown), the anchor (Birmingham), the lion passant (925 Sterling), & the date letter 'g' (1906 - 07).

The book was printed by William Clowes & Sons Ltd, & contains 861 pages including a frontispiece with an engraving of a Dutch ? Church scene with 'By permission of Arthur Ackermann' (a famous 19th C Art Dealer) below.

Condition : The leather cover has wear to the finish & the Silver cover, which has been attached by a pin in addition to the usual fixing, has various small dings to the edges, but the repousse decoration is still fairly sharp - Good for it's 103 years.

The interior has various ink inscriptions (inc xmas 1906, the others have bled) to the front free endpaper & flyleafs, there has been an old 'woven' tape repair to the front hinge (between the front endpapers, flyleafs, & the frontispiece). The rest of the binding is nice & tight, & the pages are very clean.

The book measures approx 2 1/4" long, 1 7/8" wide, & 3/4" deep (approx 5.5cm x 4.8cm x 1.7cm).
