This is an unusual Victorian silver plate spirit ? flask, by the famous firm of James Dixon & Sons, & dating to around the end of the 19th Century. The flask is cylindrical in form, with a vaguely ovoid shape, & has a cork lined screw on lid & two small, fixed suspension loops (at either side of the lid) through which, a cord or strap would be attached to enable hanging from your person, etc. The base of the flask is impressed with 'JAMES DIXON & SON' over 'SHEFFIELD', with a 'D' and the the 'Bugle & Flag' trademark above, & the pattern ? number '101' below. Although I'm not sure what the intended use was, with the cork lined lid it is almost certainly used to hold a liquid, perhaps brandy or similar when riding, hunting, etc ? Condition is Fine, there is no plate loss, just the expected light surface marks garnered over it's 110 odd years. The flask measures approx 3 3/4" (9.5cm) in length, & has a circumference (in the middle) of 6 1/4" (16cm).
