This is a Georgian hinged snuff box, made of papier mache, & dating to around 1800 - 1820.

The box is oval in form with a flat back (vaguely 'shell' shaped), & is decorated with a raised fluted design to the edge, with the lid & base having a fluted or scalloped design radiating from a central cartouche.

The box opens via a hinge, & the lid has a moulded lip.

Condition is Fine given it's 200 odd years, the hinge has rust but is still very strong & opens / closes smoothly, the closure is fairly good (the lid stays shut, but I wouldn't describe it as tight), & the original black finish has worn in places, most noticeably to the front edge & extremities.

The box measures approx 2 1/4" long, 1 1/2" wide, & 3/4" deep (approx 6.5cm x 3.8cm x 2.1cm).
