This is a large Art Deco period WMF Ikora vase, made of bronze & with the factory impressed mark & signed, & dating to around 1925 - 30. The vase is baluster in form with a fluted neck, & has been given a green, mottled finish (almost suggesting patination) which has a highly stylised Oriental design with gold highlights (under a loupe, the highlights are actually etched, allowing the true Bronze colour through). The design seems to be Japanese or Chinese influenced, & suggests stylised branches ?, dragons ?, fire ?. The base is fully marked with the WMF 'steeple in a circle' mark over WMF. There are also two hand scratched marks reading '159' & 'mel' or 'mef' - please see magnified photo. Condition is Fine with only expected wear to the base rim. There are no holes or repairs to the bottom (this type of vase is often converted into a lamp base). The vase stands approx 10 1/8" high (25.8cm) & weighs over 700g unpacked. |
