This is a late 19th Century miniature spring assisted corkscrew, almost certainly made for perfume, medicine or ink bottles, and probably of German manufacture. The corkscrew has a bone handle, a spring along the shank (which compresses during turning to exert an extra 'pull' on the cork), and an open frame, which helps in removing the cork from the worm by allowing it to be held whilst turning the handle counter clockwise. The top of the handle / shank has a suspension loop to allow attachment to a chatelaine, etc. Condition is absolutely Fine, with a strong spring. The corkscrew measures approx 2 1/2" in length (approx 6.3cm). |
