Victorian Silver Guilloche Enamel Travelling Tantalus
This is a Victorian Silver and Guilloche Enamel twin bottle travelling Tantalus in a fitted leather case, by the illustrious silversmiths Levi & Salaman, & fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1900.

The stitched leather case is circular in form, with a leather hinge & a buckle fastening, & opens to reveal a leather lined interior with a central dividing panel to the base section.

Each hand finished bottle has been made from a heavy, thick glass in a semi-circular form, & each has been fitted with a ground glass stopper & a Silver hinged collar and top.

The Silver tops both have a decorative circle of Guilloche Enamel, one top in Sky Blue & the other in a deep Red. The Guilloche work is extremely unusual in that the enamel has been laid over a hand chased design (different on each top), as opposed to the standard engine turned design.

Each bottle is fully hallmarked to the collar with the makers mark 'L&S' (Levi & Salaman), the anchor (Birmingham), the lion passant (925 Sterling), & the date letter 'a' (1900 - 01). The lion passant & date letter are repeated to the interior of both lids.

Condition is Very Good, there is a very small (5mm) loss of enamel on the 'Blue' bottle & a small graze to the enamel on the 'Red' bottle. The glass stopper on the 'Blue' bottle is fast.

The case is fine with just the expected wear to the leather hinge & belt. The bottles are a perfect fit, as would be expected in such a high quality case.

The case is approx 4 5/8" tall with a diameter of 3 3/4" (approx 11.7cm x 9.5cm). Each bottle stands approx 4 1/8" high to the top of the lid (approx 10.5cm) & holds approx 100 ml or just under 1/4 pint.
