This is a small, late Victorian / Edwardian hinged case containing it's own seal & ink pad, designed to be hung from a chatelaine or an Albert, and made from plated metal. The case is rectangular in form with a pendant knob & suspension ring on one end, to enable hanging from a chain etc. The front of the case has an impressed Rose design. The case is held closed by a clasp, & hinges open to reveal a removable seal, & a fitted ink pad in the base. The seal has a spring loaded 'butterfly' type handle & an intertwined monogram seal, made from an early, hard rubber type material.. Condition is fair, given it's age. The case is structurally sound, with a good hinge & clasp, but there is plate loss all over & the ink pad has long dried up.. The seal has a strong sprung handle (which folds down to fit in the case & springs open upon opening), but the rubber seal is very hard with signs of age related wear. The monogram is still quite sharp. There is plate loss & corrosion to the edges. The case, excluding the pendant & bow, measures approx 1 1/4" long, 1" wide, & 3/8" deep (approx 3.1cm x 2.5cm x 1cm).
