French Art Nouveau Brass Desktop Ink Blotter c.1890

This is a magnificent & large French Art Nouveau desktop rocker blotter, made of brass and mahogany & bearing the makers mark of D.L, & dating to around 1890 - 1900.

The top & handle have been beautifully cast in brass, whilst the curved base has been made from mahogany.

The top has a stylised floral / foliate design flowing from each corner towards the centre, which has a circular, organic design. The top of the handle has a stylised floral / foliate spray design.

The solid mahogany base has it's original cloth covering.

The handle unscrews, which allows the top to be removed, so that a strip of blotting paper can be attached to the base.

The interior of the top has the makers mark of 'D.L.', 'DEPOSE' (French registered design), & 'N 32' (probably a design number).

The blotter measures approx 5 1/2" long, 3 1/4" wide, & stands approx 4" tall to the top of the handle (approx 13.8cm, 8.2cm, & 10.3cm).

The blotter is very substantial, weighing approx 660 grammes.
