Georgian George III Silver Christening Mug Tankard 1806

This is a George III, Silver Christening? mug or tankard, possibly by the silversmith Alexander Field, & fully hallmarked for London 1806.

The tankard tapers upwards, with an applied ribbed detail to the base & rim, & a heavy, scroll handle.

The body has been hand engraved around it's circumference with a dot pricked Greek Key design & a dot pricked wavy line design, to the top and bottom.

The front of the tankard has a chased foliate garland cartouche, with the initials 'FB'? in foliate script.

The cup is fully hallmarked to the top of one side with the lion passant (925 Sterling), the leopards head crowned (London), the date letter 'L' (1806 - 07), the George head (duty mark), & the partially struck makers mark (poss. A Field or one of the Vincent's, depending which way up the mark has been struck).

Condition is Good for it's 203 years. There is a tiny (3mm) split to the rim, a very light & shallow (1cm long) bruise to one side, & a very small & shallow bruise to the other side - all very minor & easily rectified.

The tankard measures approx 3" high, with a base diameter of 2 5/8" & a rim diameter of 2 1/4" (approx 7.7cm, 6.7cm, & 5.8cm).

The weight is a substantial 100.6 g, 3.55 oz, or 3.23 Troy.

Overall, a stunning Georgian cup or tankard.
