Art Deco Cold Painted Spelter Terrier Ash Tray c1940

This is a large, Art Deco period ashtray (or pin tray), made of alabaster? and mounted with a cold painted spelter figure of a Terrier, & dating to around the 1930's.

The base is oval in form, with a bowl & two rests at one end. The actual bowl is very small & would make an ideal pin tray, etc.

The base has been mounted with a spelter figure of a Terrier dog, who has been cold painted in white with a brown patch over one eye & ear. The Terrier has a square muzzle (rather like a fox terrier etc), short legs, & a short, erect tail.

The base has the original, snakeskin pattern, embossed paper covering, although this is partial & worn. The screw fixing of the spelter figure is also visible on the base.

Condition is fine. The paint on the Terrier is worn in places & there are a few, very shallow, nibbles to the edges of the base - please see magnified photographs.

The base measures approx 7 1/4" x 4 1/2" at widest points (approx 18.5cm x 11.5cm), with a total height of approx 3 1/2" (approx 9cm).

The piece is very heavy for it's size at just under 1 Kg unpacked, so collection in the W Lothian / Edinburgh area is welcome.
