Cased Art Deco Bakelite Writing Set Pen Seal c.1920's

This is an original 5 piece Art Deco period writing / desk set, in it's original fitted case, & dating to around the late 1920's / 1930's.

The set consists of a seal, an ink eraser knife, a paper knife or letter opener, a dip pen, & a (later) propelling pencil.

Each piece (with the exception of the pencil) has a bakelite? or celluloid? handle consisting of a bright Red section & a Cream or Ivory section. The Cream section screws into the Red section, with both sections separated by a Black washer or spacer.

The Seal has a circular brass seal end, which can be unscrewed & has not been engraved, & measures approx 2 7/8" long (approx 7.3cm).

The ink-eraser knife has a steel blade which looks to have been gilded originally, & measures approx 6 1/4" in length (approx 16cm).

The letter opener / paper knife has a brass blade & measures approx 7 1/2" long (approx 19cm).

The dip pen has a removable, push in nib & measures approx 6" long (approx 15.2cm) excluding the nib.

The propelling pencil is a later replacement (although it sits well with the other pieces), & has a cream plastic body with gilt plated mounts, & is impressed with "STIK", 'made in USA', & 'PAT NO 2506075', which dates it to 1950. The pencil measures approx 4 3/4" or approx 12cm.

The wooden case is rectangular in form & has a 'faux leather' paper covering. The box is fastened via two brass clasps, & hinges open to reveal a padded silk lined lid & a Beige velvet fitted base.

Condition of the implements is good. The points to note are that the cream handle of the seal has a very small scratch, the steel blade of the eraser has a little surface rust to the tip, & the cream handle of the dip pen has wear & is discoloured.

Condition of the fitted case is generally poor, although the structure, hinges & clasps are good.

Overall, a scarce & original Art Deco period writing set, in a desirable colour.
