Late Georgian Gold & Hair Mourning Brooch Pin c.1830-50

This is an English, late Georgian / early Victorian period mourning brooch or pin, made from yellow Gold & with the hairwork under glass, and dating to around 1830 - 50.

The brooch is rectangular in form, with a hinged pin & 'C' clasp fixing, & an attached, fixed ring for the addition of a safety chain.

The front of the brooch has a very deep & finely cast floral border & a central, Gold framed, bevelled edge crystal. The dark blonde hair has been woven / plaited & mounted under the crystal.

Condition is Fine. There is the expected, but light, dust around the interior edge of the crystal, & the rear of the brooch has a small and very old gouge mark to one edge, where the brooch has been tested for Gold content (this does not affect or detract in any way & we have retested the brooch to in excess of 9 carat).

The brooch measures approx 7/8" x 1/2" (approx 2.3cm x 1.4cm), & weighs 5.4 grammes.
