This is an English, Victorian period mourning brooch or pin, made from yellow Gold inlaid with Whitby jet and with the hairwork under glass, and dating to around 1860 - 70.

The brooch is rectangular in form, with a hinged steel pin & 'C' clasp fixing.

The front of the brooch has an inlaid Jet border & a centrally mounted Gold frame, with a cast scrolling floral design, which surrounds a bevelled edge crystal. The light brown hair has been woven / plaited & mounted under the crystal.

Condition is Fine. The only points to note are that there is a build up of dust under the crystal, which obscures the hair but is easily addressed, & a tiny bruise to the rear.

The brooch measures approx 7/8" x 5/8" (approx 2.3cm x 1.7cm), & weighs 5.1 grammes.
