This is an original flying Cherub twin pendant chandelier with it's original light fittings & cut glass lustres, almost certainly of French origin, & dating to the early part of the 20th Century, around 1910 - 20's. The cherub, which is made from heavily Gilded moulded plaster, is wonderfully detailed & has acquired a lovely patina over it's 100 or so years. The cherub has outstretched arms & holds a globe in each hand, from which, the original pendant chandeliers are suspended. The lights have a standard bayonet fitting & a circular, gadrooned gallery with tiny pierced holes around the circumference, from which, the cut glass 'icicle' lustres are hung. Each articulated lustre consists of 2 octagonal Brilliant Cut buttons & a long, faceted 'icicle' drop; all joined by wire & with a wire hook to attach to the light fitting. There are a total of 24 lustres, 12 on each lamp (there would have originally been a few more, but 12 evenly spaced on each lamp works fine). The cherub is suspended via it's original link chain & hooked ceiling rose. The drop can easily be adjusted by adding / removing links. As with all antique electrical fittings, the chandelier would need to be rewired / checked by a qualified electrician, thus is sold as in non working order. The original wiring is in place. Condition is fine. The cherub has no damage or restoration whatsoever. The only points to note are a few very small spots of rubbed gilding, most 'noticeable' to the left forearm (around 4mm), & the plain ceiling rose has been painted over - excellent for it's 100 or so years. The cherub measures approx 13" (33cm) in total length & the height (in the hung position & from the top of the cherubs foot to the bottom of the glass lustres) is approx 18" or 46cm. The chain is approx 7" (18cm) & the actual drop can be altered by adding/removing links. Overall, a scarce, original & unmolested example with, unusually, all of it's original fittings - Stunning.
